How to Lower Your Auto Insurance in Nashville

Paying for auto insurance is not the favorite pastime for many Nashville drivers, but it is necessarily in today's civilized society, and actually illegal to drive without auto insurance!  And your hunch is probably true: the auto insurance companies are making a fortune off this business.  However, of all the types of insurance one conscientious person can buy, auto insurance is the most prevalent form of financial protection that will be ever used.

There are million of cars that travel to and from work every day and some new student drivers are an accident just waiting to happen.  Auto insurance protects drivers from car collisions, car totaling, accidental death, other liability damages and not to mention comprehensive damages that restore your car's good looks.  Here are some tips on how to save on auto insurance costs.

1.Increase Your Deductible

Asking your insurance company to lower the deductible is a smart way to save—if you have the savings account to back it up.  A deductible refers to an amount of damage that you are willing to pay out of pocket, leaving the insurance company out of the matter.  If you can afford to pay a one time deductible of anywhere from $250 to $1,000, then you can significantly lower your monthly premium rates as much as 40% in some cases.

2.Stop Paying on Old Cars

Many drivers are paying too much for auto insurance simply because they are paying for comprehensive or collision damages on older car models that no longer have a great Kelley Blue Book value.  If you have an old car that is worth less than 10 times the premium, then that's a good indication that you are overpaying on a car you could just as easily fix yourself if it gets damaged.  By limiting your cost to liability only, you can save a lot of money and start a savings account for emergency repairs.

3.Drive Safe, Drive Less

Another option is to take advantage of the low mileage discounts that some insurance companies offer.  If you have maintained a very good driving record, and usually do not drive for long periods of time, then you can find a discounted auto insurance policy.  Even if your current insurance company is unwilling to extend a loyalty discount, there are plenty of other companies that will offer you a reduced rate based on evidence of your low-risk category.
